The latest news about oil shortage haven't subside. All the residents here are rushing to buy their essential in every supermarket. Like my mom, keep asking me to help her to buy some oil from the shopping centre. I failed to do that even I have shop at Carrefour, Tesco, Jaya Jusco and Giant at Malacca last week. At first, I thought my mom was joking or it was just only a rumour. Only now I believed. Sigh, what is happening now?
Why is this incident happen in our country since we are so rich in natural resources if compared to others country?I really don't understand. So, who will suffer in this case? Probably all the hawkers and the housewife. Maybe they cannot running their business for a few days. We, as a consumer, I think we better don't be panic. If all people keep rushing buying oil, I think it will be more worse.
For me, the shortage of oil doesn't effect me a lot because I seldom use oil at home because I didn't cook. But, I am a Fried Kuew Tiew lover, so hoping that they don't put some much oil in my favour dish. HaHa!

Wow, I had no idea this was going on! I can't imagine it, but something like this did happen in the US many years ago.
I just found you blog. You have a lovely baby! I hope everything turns out OK. Best wishes.
Hi Hazel,
So you are experiencing cooking oil shortage in your country? I think you are using palm oil instead of coconut oil just like in my contry- the Philippines. We don't experience cookinhg oil shortage here. Well you can cook your food without the use of oil. You can just broil, bake or steam your food. It's a lot healthier too. Thanks for the amusing post. Have a wonderful and pleasant day in Malaysia.
Oh dear! Am abt to do my grocery shopping in a bit, hopefully there'll still be some oil left for me! :):):)
Really? Oh I didn't know it's that bad..
What a joke hor, world no 1 exporter of palm oil has shortage of palm oil based cooking oil.
Obviously it's a coincident that every time the businesses ask for a "revision" the controlled price of an item, we would have shortage of that particular item.
i think i will just boil my food! good for diet! lol!
oil is so important for malaysian.
we all eat fried food almost everyday.
are you serious!omg.i can't believe that could happen to m'sia. Will check this out with my mom later.thanks for sharing this info.
Hazel,
Every year, I noticed Malaysia always shortage of something... Flour, sugar and now cooking oil... What's next? Eggs?
yah, it happen once a time..
But I can see many cooking oil supply at the hypermarket shelves... Perhaps they get the enough supply already~
oil shortage? that's serious.
the price of cooking oil here is going to soar after cny.
I think it became a problem because some sellers are 'hiding' it.
And simply create a 'panic buying' which indirectly makes it a real shortage.
I think it is because of greedy sellers aiming for profits.
I went to Mydin USJ the other day for my weekly shopping and there loads of oil available... thank God! :)
I think it's just panic-buying, people read it on the news, hear rumours... so everyone kelam-kabut to buy oil.
Have a great weekend, Hazel :)
